Initial Incident Report

On January 24, 2012 at 6 p.m., a motorized patrol from the Mukoko police station was driving along the Kasake road. The police have finished their tour of duty and are heading to the police station to drop off the vehicle. They are in a hurry to return to watch the television broadcast of a football match for the African Cup of Nations.

At this moment, near the crossroads called Trois Manguiers, they saw a group of people gathered on the side of the road. The group signals for the patrol to join them. The police, after having stopped the vehicle along the road, approach the group to inquire about the situation.

There are five people there. The group seems restless and excited. Everyone speaks at the same time. The police ask the group to calm down and move aside to let them pass. They move forward into an area overgrown with tall grass and thick shrubbery. They then discover, a few meters from the road, on the side, the body of a man lying on the ground, his face against the ground. All around him there is a pool of blood.

The police then asked those present not to leave the premises. They must identify the identities of the people making up the group and obtain their testimony. They also protect the scene by asking the group to step aside. The police then begin their investigation.

The man lying on the ground is inert. There is no sign of breathing. The body is lifeless. The man appears to be in his thirties. A puddle of dried blood is smeared on the ground around him. Her clothes are messy. There are footprints on the surrounding land. Crumpled grass and broken shrub branches suggest a struggle may have taken place.

Near the corpse, the police discovered a motorcycle to which a trailer was hitched. The motorcycle is lying on the ground. The trailer is overturned. Bags containing vegetables and fruits are torn. Their contents are scattered on the floor.

The police search the victim in search of an identity document or an object allowing him to be identified. The victim's pockets are empty. The police found no objects or documents around the body. They then inspect the vehicle. It is a Chinese type motorcycle, it is in poor condition. The red paint is barely visible and rust is everywhere. The trailer is also in poor condition. No plate on the vehicle or on the trailer allows any identification.

At the request of the police, the victim was transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital, located about 20 kilometers from the place where the victim's body was discovered.

Continuation of the report - 4

At the hospital the victim is quickly taken care of. The doctors can't do anything for the man who was brought to them. They declare the person dead. After examining the corpse, they inform the police that the man died of a bullet wound which hit him in the chest, in the region of the heart. Death was instantaneous. In addition, they inform the police that the victim also showed signs of violence on his arms and hands. These traces suggest that the man struggled to escape one or more people who were trying to hold him down.

The police identified the identity of the five people present at the scene when the patrol intervened. They collected the first testimonies. All of these people are saying the same thing. None of them can provide details regarding the incident that occurred. No one attended the scene. Two walkers passing by saw the body lying on the ground and approached. Within minutes they were joined by three other people driving down the road. All say they arrived at the scene just minutes before the arrival of the police patrol. They confirm that they did not see or hear anything and cannot provide any further information to the police.
